The Busted Wife Roast

My wife wanted to experiment with coffee. She wanted to see if coffee was similar to vegetables and other foods in that the less you cook them, the fresher and more nutritious they are--think el dente broccoli as opposed to something you can cut through with your finger. Based on my experience so far and everything I read I had my doubts. But we pushed ahead and decided to use Sumatra Organic Gayo Mountain Special as today's sacrificial offering.

Weight
Start weight 87g/finish weight 75g - a total weight loss of 13.8%

Roasting Profile
325 degrees for 1 minute
400 degrees for 1:30 minutes
460 degrees for remainder

Roasting Notes
At 3:05 minutes we started the cool down mode. The beans had entered first crack, and probably came close to finishing, but may not have quite completed the first crack. I would guess that this would be classified as a light New England Roast.

Tasting Notes
This is a great exercise for anyone who is unclear of the characteristics of acid in coffee. The cup was pretty much undrinkable and really displayed no idiosyncratic characteristics. Lesson learned.
